Manjunath Kamath

I took pictures in Art basel Hongkong 2018.

Manjunath Kamath's large, square canvases immediately capture the viewer's attention because of his use of flat, rich primary colours as background. These create an imaginary space in which emptiness serves as perspective and anything can happen. His works are filled with objects and animals, although the distinction between the two is often hard to make변하다 as objects morph into animals and animals into objects, creating bizarre괴상한 chimeras키메라,신화속 동물/카이메라/ that tickle the fancy and stimulate the imagination. Every such image becomes a motif and when one realizes that certain motifs recur in Kamath's works, they begin to form a unique visual vocabulary. His more recent works have been inspired by Vaishnavite myths and imagery, leading him into a new direction - sculpture. The weight and solidity of Vishnu Vilas may seem at odds with the rest of his creations, but the iridescent무지개빛의 butterflies flitting가볍게스치다 around the top of the sculpture are redolent생각나게하는,냄새나는 of Manjunath's magic. Absurd, chaotic and playful, Manjunath Kamath's works remain open-ended and invite the viewer to construct their own narratives. It is this element of storytelling that makes all of his works engaging, witty and charming.
Manjunath Kamath's works have been displayed at Gallery Espace; Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi; the French Embassy in New Delhi; Gallery Soulflower, Bangkok; Hangaram Museum, Seoul, South Korea; UGC Hall, Cardiff, UK and others. He is the recipient of the Charles Wallace Scholarship and was Artist-in-Residence at the School of Art and Design, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, UK in 2002.

The artist lives and works in Delhi.
